Hair production goes through three stages. 

1. Anagen- a growth phase which lasts 2-6 years

2. Catagen- a transitional phase which lasts only 1-2 weeks

3. Telogen - a resting stage which lasts up to two months.

The hair then begins to shed, and new growth is pushing itself out to the surface.
